In “Masters of Desire: The Culture of American Advertising”, Jack Solomon analyzes and points out the creativity advertisements use to manipulate us consumers. He believes that advertisers do not persuade us, rather they manipulate us to buy their goods and so far they are doing a really good job knowing that we as consumers will buy their products because it makes us feel up to date in some way. Solo also believes that advertisers use creativity to send their message without even having to present the product in the ad.
I believe it is true that advertisement is a way of getting into consumers head and persuade them to buy the product no matter what the cost is. As long as it makes us feel updated, we are good. For example, as a consumer myself, I tend to buy things that are not necessary for me to have but it is only because it looked really awesome on TV or someone else has it. This is what advertisers want from us as consumers. Buy everything we see on TV.

Why we crave blog
Summary:
In “Why We Crave Horror Movies” Stephen king starts by claiming the basic reasons to why we crave horror movies even though we are afraid of own own shadow. He simply states that we are all mentally ill. However, some of us are able to hide that while others are not able to do so. King talks about how horror movies are like roller coasters, in that they keep us guessing and can make us scream at various parts of the ride. He mentions that most us love horror movies because we simply can. In conclusion, King states that horror movies appeal to the worst in us and that is the reason why we love watching horror movies.
Response:
The author claims that we are " mentally ill ". He is correct. However, I believe some of us love watching horror movies because of the fact that they kind of present things that we as humans have experienced through our lives. We usually do things that are life threatening just to say that we capable of doing them without realizing the consequences along with those risks that we take,

2b or not 2b ? blog
In the article " 2b or not 2b," David Crystal discusses how he believes texting will not destroy our language. As a matter of fact, he believes that it is a new technology system for people to communicate with one another. Crystal introduces an argument when he mentioned John Humphry's text. He says that Humphry does not support texting and believes that it only destroys our language in some way. Crystal also discussed how texting began in the early 1990's during this time texting was limited. You could only send 20 characters in length. However, texting has began growing tremendously since then.
Response:
This article was very interesting to read because it actually talks about things that might need some change. I believe texting does ruin our language in some way. When i send a message to my friends or family, I tend to abbreviate almost every word I use and therefore end up forgetting how a word is spelled. I also believe that David Crystal has a point where he talks about the length of a message. Today, Texting has taken over many things such as sitting down and reading a book.

English 79 2nd Blog
In " Are Too Many People Going To College, " Charles Murray argues whether high school students are enrolling in colleges right after they graduate nor thinking of the importance and nature of liberal education. He says that getting through high school is just basically getting you ready for the " tough stuff " in college. He mentions that most core knowledge should be learned in middle school, while high school should be more of a survey courses such as humanities, art, and social sciences. He also says that going to a four-year school might not be necessary because the average student is taking 32 courses within those years and that is more enough to take the required classes for their appropriate field of study. Murray says getting a B.A. seems like the right decision for high school graduates that are headed college.
Response:
I find this essay very interesting because of the fact that it talks about the importance of attending college and whether our high school students are enrolling in colleges after they graduate. I myself have met many people that are currently working two jobs, trying to maintain/balance their lives paycheck to paycheck. Simply because they chose not to enroll in college and therefore aren't able to live the life they've always dreamed of. However, there are many people who enroll in college after they realize that they aren't able to provide for their families without a degree and a good job.

I have recently read some of the essays on This I believe website and came across one that caught my eyes. I read an essay called " Never Give Up " by Mary Curran Hackett, she mentions that giving up on something due to the fact that it's hard was not an option to her and her father. Mary's father would always give her and her siblings frequent speeches about the importance of perseverance. Mary came to be surprised about how much her father lived his :never give up" message toward her when she needed him the most. Mary describes her father as a man who will simply not give up on anything no matter how hard the situation is. However, Mary almost gave up in life due to the fact that she was nine months pregnant and the father of her child was long gone. Despite all that, she still managed to not give up because her father didn't.

I find this essay to be very informative and carries a message to us all. This essay relates to me because I almost gave up in life couple years back. During my sophomore year in high school, I thought I wasn't going to be able to graduate because I came to realize that I have had failed a lot of classes during my freshmen year. However, I sat back and thought of everything that was going on in my life and decided to continue my education whether I was going to graduate or not. I kept telling myself giving up is not an option. I knew giving up was only going to make my life miserable and that I would regret it in the future. In conclusion, my counselor called me up to her office to discuss my road to graduation and therefore she explained how proud she was that I have not given up on my education and I was going to walk the stage by the end 2013 along with all the seniors. I believe everyone should not give up on their dreams and pursue after their goals in life.
